One of the world wide first Oracle 10g Database Server installations onto Debian GNU/Linux was operated by PROMATIS system specialists.
The Debian-Project is a group of individuals who develop a free, open operating system in team-work. Debian-Systems use the Linux-Kernel at the present, whereas it is being worked on offering Debian with other kernels, especially GNU/Hurd. Even though Debian is enjoying increasing popularity, Oracle 10g isn’t yet (April 2005) certified for Debian.
The platform for customer installation has been the Woody-Implementation of Debian. However, to accomplish the installation, Woody had to be emphasized by current Sarge Packages. After first tests, modifications on system parameters and environment variables had to be made and initial problems had to be resolved with the database-listener.
The effect was a stable and high-performance database-platform, which is used by the customer as a basis for comprehensive product development and distribution.
