The Situation
In the last few years, content management systems (CMS) have become essential tools for the management and optimization of complex content processes for Web portals. However, the implementation of such content management systems is often complex, time consuming and yet expensive.
The SEGRA GmbH in Waldbronn (Germany), an innovative provider of integrated Web Portal solutions, has been assigned with the implementation of a Content Management System as the basis of a Corporate Portal by one of their customers in the Service branch. The scope for the project was especially restrictive: Despite of a tight budget, the customer required the preparation of an easy-to-use multimedia Document Management System. It was requested that the system would provide workflow support for editorial- and knowledge management processes. Due to the customers' highly distributed company structure, the entire application needed to be Web-based.
The Project
After an intensive market analysis and the evaluation of different systems, the customer decided in favor of the think Collaboration Services! (think CS!) by PROMATIS. In only 4 weeks, a highly efficient system for the online management of multimedia documents was implemented based on the Oracle9i Application Server and the think CS!-component Content Manager! Using Oracle Portal, Portlets have been developed that allow the filling of content sections directly out of the database-based document management system.
In a second project phase, the think CS!-component Workflow Manager! was used in order to represent all editorial workflows and to integrate these workflows into the existing system.
Owing to the seamless integration of the think Collaboration Services! with the Oracle 9i Application Server architecture, this task could also be completed in a short time. This, above all, because no interface and integration problems had to be dealt with during the project, due to the fact that all components are optimally aligned with each other. All components nevertheless provide the flexibility that is required for a customer specific solution. |
